Marisol
|
BIO:
Shortly after the publication of Marisol's
debut novel, The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan, Publisher's
Weekly dubbed it a "Hot Pick," the prestigious Kirkus
Reviews called it "uncommonly lyrical," and Book Sense
76, the association of Independent Booksellers, called the novel,
"an important book." For the sensuality of the writing,
Denver's Westword dubbed the book "Hotter than Hot."
Based on an old South American proverb that "a woman must be
a lady in the living room, a chef in the kitchen and a courtesan
in the bedroom," this luscious novel is ripe with recipes to
win a lover's heart. In the tradition of "Like Water for Chocolate"
and "Chocolat," The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan
has been hailed for its unique approach to writing about food. The
novel interweaves the story of three generation of women and the
role tradition plays in their lives and the choices they face.
In addition to participating in various food panels around the country,
Marisol will participate in the distinguished Visiting Chef program
at Johnson & Wales University.
The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan has been translated into several
languages and was recently released in Dutch, German, Spanish and
paperback.
The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan
"A
woman must be a lady in the living room, a chef in the kitchen,
and a courtesan in the bedroom."
This is the time-honored saying from which Marisol's first novel,
The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan, derives its title. The
author learned the saying from her grandmother when she was growing
up in her native Venezuela.
The book begins with the story of Pilar Castillo, a young woman
from Venezuela who now lives and works in Chicago and who returns
to Caracas to attend the funeral of her beloved grandmother, Gabriela
Grenales. A surprise awaits Pilar after the funeral: her grandmother's
secret diaries.
Gabriela has left Pilar the diaries that recount her tumultuous
secret life, along with the secrets of how to be the perfect wife,
woman and lover.
After reading the books Pilar is forced to confront her own life
and to make a decision she's been dreading to make: Should she
stay in the United States and continue her relationship with Patrick
Russo, her American heartthrob boyfriend? Or, should she go back
home (as it is expected of her) and marry Rafael Uslar Mancera,
a successful lawyer of her same station to whom she was once engaged?
This is her plight.
The Lady, The Chef, and The Courtesan juxtaposes the roles that
traditionally have been ascribed to women while telling a riveting
tale about the forces of tradition and what it really means to
be a woman. The book is set in both exotic Venezuela and familiar
USA and its beautiful prose is spiced with secret recipes from
Marisol's grandmother.

Metallo
Cast Sinks and Surfaces
The Fusion of Concrete and Metal
Metallo
Cast Sinks and Surfaces is a completely new line for design professionals,
offering basins, vessel sinks, and integrated sinks and countertops
that beautifully fuse concrete and metal in a visually stunning
and long-lasting product.
Every
Metallo cast sink and surface is meticulously hand-crafted, -coated,
and -polished for the ultimate in quality and uniqueness. The
lustrous satin finish and a penetrating sealant allows both the
concrete and the metal to age gracefully. The numerous concrete
and metal colors and patterns make Metallo Cast Sinks and Surfaces
the focal point of any room.
Metallo
is the result of a collaboration between Colorado Concrete Concepts
and Liquid Metal Coatings, two Colorado-based firms which already
have created names for themselves with highly unique and quality
products.
Colorado
Concrete Concepts specializes in decorative glass-fiber reinforced
concrete (GFRC) architectural elements including counters, vanities,
fireplace surrounds, tabletops, and tiles. Colorado Concrete Concepts'
surfaces are specified by architects and contractors for projects
nationwide, including the Denver Zoo and West Virginia's historic
Greenbrier Hotel.
Liquid
Metal Coatings provides a unique service in the design industry
by applying a seamless layer of real metal to virtually any object
or material: wood, plastic, ceramic, wallpaper, etc. The durable
metal coating is cold applied, then hand-finished, and a patina
can be applied to create a subtle, naturally aged look. Liquid
Metal Coating's clients are interior designers, home builders,
remodelers, and architects.
The
founders of these two firms, Scott Hild (Colorado Concrete Concepts)
and Wendy Scheck (Liquid Metal Coatings) decided to combine their
significant creative abilities - and the artistic possibilities
of their respective mediums - in a new product. They researched
and brainstormed on how to utilize GFRC and metal coating in a
way that would bring out the best in both materials. Metallo,
The Fusion of Concrete and Metal, satisfies the founders' ideal
as an elegant and lasting product.
